We Are Mauna Kea

Amy Hanaialii and Willie K, John Cruz, Paula Fuga, and Hawane Rios all star in this benefit concert for an Education Fund for Mauna Kea, on Sunday April 26 at 4pm.

All musicians are donating their time and services. The "We Are Mauna Kea" concert is being presented and sponsored by Real Farm of Waikii Ranch.

Proceeds will go to KAHEA: the Hawaiian Environmental Alliance, for a new Mauna Kea Education Fund. This will support promotional materials exploring the historical, cultural, environmental and spiritual significance of the mountain, to residents and visitors alike. KAHEA is a 501c3 non-profit that has supported many environmental initiatives over the last ten years such as the right for Hawaiian cultural access to shorelines, and protecting the Hawaiian Monk Seal.

Melanie Holt of Real Farm explains the purpose of the concert; "Pretty much everyone on the island and the state is aware of the struggle to protect Mauna Kea from further illegal development. Hundreds of people are camping at almost 10,000 feet at the Visitor Center to protect the summit from bulldozers. The Governor has now announced three time outs on the TMT ground breaking. But we have little chance to express our voice in the community."

"While many young people especially are flocking to the mountain now to join the protectors, we feel we should emphasize the gratitude we all feel for Mauna Kea, the reverence we hold her in, and the stories or mo'olelo that she holds for us. Our community should have opportunity to become more knowledgeable about the environment we live in, and the situations we face, for the future and health of our children - especially through the medium of music - a healing and calming energy. This is a celebration of our Mauna Kea."

Tickets are $20 general admission in advance, $30 at the door. A limited number of $50 Gold Circle seats are also available.
