A Bill for Environmental Justice - SB107
For far too long the Wai`anae Coast has shouldered the disproportionate burden of O`ahu’s waste facilities. This fact has driven many Coast residents to fight, on numerous occassions, in numerous venues, to achieve the relief that they so urgently need. Unfortunately, these attempts have accumulated only minor gains, while the Coast continues to face the impact of environmental injustice.
This legislative session has provided an opportunity to give these residents, and indeed all residents of the State, an inviolate right to challenge the placement of these facilities, to bring this fight under the shield of a Constitutional Amendment. This is the intent behind SB107, to realize the goals of Environmental Justice.
