Money Well Spent? We think not.
$100 million spent on the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) design, development, six-figure salaries, and the “shifting of mindsets” and “creat[ing] positive enthusiasm” for the TMT. The proposed TMT would be the largest telescope on Mauna Kea by far and the latest in a long line of the University of Hawai`i’s affronts to Native Hawaiian rights.
A Story of Displacement
The current struggle to see these lands remain in agriculture is part of a longer fight between developers and farming communities that has been ongoing for almost 60 years. As farmers tell their stories, we can see a pattern where urbanization displaces farmers and farms.

Planning Commission 'Passes the Buck' on Wai`anae Plan to City Council
On May 16th, the City Planning Commission met to decide whether they should recommend the City Council to accept or deny the current version of the Waianae Sustainable Community Plan (WSCP) which includes the Purple Spot. They couldn’t come to any consensus and passed the plan on without any recommendation. Lame!
