WAILUKU -- On January 15th 2010, Senate President Shan S. Tsutsui will team up with the County of Maui, Baldwin High School and Schnitzer Steel to host Maui’s first annual Aloha Aina Earth Day at Baldwin High School from 8:00am-2:00pm.
A regular event on Oahu, Aloha Aina Earth Day was created in 2004 to reduce waste, promote recycling and raise funds for schools and community organizations. Items accepted include: scrap metals, bicycles, appliances, newspaper, cardboard, telephone books, magazines, plastic bags, HI-5 beverage containers, plastic bags, batteries, cellular phones, printer cartridges, computers, printers, cooking oil, eyeglasses, hearing aids, usable household items and clothing. Items not accepted include tires, motor oil, paint and hazardous fluids.
There will also be a CFL light bulb swap (bring 3 incandescent bulbs and get them replaced with 3 CFL bulbs), shredding of personal documents (8-11am, limit 2 banker boxes per person) and canned food drive for the Maui Food Bank.
