You are invited to the first ever Kumu A‘o Festival this Saturday, June 11 (9am-4pm) at Windward Community College.
Join us for a day of FREE presentations and hands-on mini-workshops with respected cultural practitioners:
- “Sculpting the image of Kū, one of four major Hawaiian Gods (Kū Ki‘i)" with Tui‘one Pulotu
- “Carving a functional fish hook (makau)” with ʻUmi Kai
- “Kapa dye-making” with Bernice Akamine
- “Exploring the healing power of lomilomi” with Keola Chan, “Kapono” Aluli Souza and Enrick Ortiz
- "Art! A Creative Journey" with Meleanna Meyer
- "Hawaiian nose flute" with Calvin Hoe from Hakipuʻu Learning Center
- "Pohaku Kuʻi ʻAi and Papa Kuʻi ʻai (poi boards and poi stones)" with Maka Makanani from Protect Kahoʻolawe ʻOhana
Jerry Santos and Hoku Zuttermeister will also be there with talk story and music performances.
